Scientific studies prove that happiness helps you to live longer, but sometimes being positive is hard. When you’re down in the dumps, it’s hard to climb out of that hole and see the light. However, there are some simple things that you can do everyday to increase your happiness and boost your positivity.
Here are 20 simple things that you can do daily to boost your happiness…
1. Start your day off with water, not caffeine.
Starting your day off with 16oz of refreshing water not only makes you feel good, but it also makes your body feel good. Because about 60% of the human body is water, drinking a large glass of water energizes and strengthens your body to help you to get your day off to a good start. Also, our brains are made up of mostly water, so drinking water in the morning stimulates the brain to help your body to wake up and have energy. Without realizing it, those who start the morning off with a warm cup of coffee are setting themselves up for an energy-less day, which makes for a pretty negative attitude. While one assumes that the caffeine in coffee gives you energy, it also comes with an energy crash later in the day, which leaves those who drink it feeling tired and unfocused. Caffeine damages the adrenal glands, which are the glands that give you energy, so it’s not the best energizer. Also, to liven up your water and cleanse your liver, add the squeezed juice of half of a lemon to your morning water. You could also add fresh squeezed orange juice, lime juice, cucumber slices, or other cut up fruit to your water. It’s healthier, tastier, and it’ll help motivate you to drink more water!
2. Go outside.
The outdoors are a great way to connect with your inner soul, which will always make you happy. Disconnect from electronics and distractions. Walk outside and just listen to the gentle breeze, the birds, the leaves restyling, and all of the wildlife wherever you are. Just be. Don’t think about what you have to do next, what you have to do in the next couple of days, who you need to call, or where you need to go. Even if it’s only for 5 minutes, go outside and live in the moment. Smell the amazing, happiness-inducing smell of fresh air. You can even meditate or do yoga outside to enhance your mood while you’re doing them. Anytime you can go outside, even if only for a few minutes, do it! Go stand barefoot in the grass and watch the birds in the trees, and breathe in a deep breath of fresh air. In today’s world, people hardly ever take the time to breathe, which can cause stress, anxiety, depression, and even cancer!
